Using the new Cloud9 Directory (Beta), you can easily find colleagues, counterparties, and trading partners to create new Group Connections.
A Group Connection enables communication between one group in the Cloud9 network and another. Once a connection has been created, other users within the same group don't need to recreate it. Instead, they can simply add the existing connection to their layout by navigating to Community > Connections.
Certain firms and their users are a "Hidden Firm". Therefore, when trying to find the user or group, no results will come up. The workaround for this situation would be to request the far end firm to create the connection on your behalf.
Connection types
When creating a Group Connection, you will choose between these two types of connections:
- Shoutdown - An always-open connection where audio is broadcast instantly to all participants. There is no ringing or notification and the communication begins immediately.
- Ringdown - It functions like a traditional phone call. When initiated, the recipient’s button rings, and they must manually answer before the audio connection is established.
Create a Group Connection
- Select the Cloud9 Community button in the left navigation bar.
- Select the Directory (beta) tab.
- Search for firms or users.
- Search for the name of the user you wish to speak to and select Add.
- Choose to create either a Shoutdown or a Ringdown connection in the popup window and select Next.
- Select the desired counterparty group and select Next.
- Select the group from your own firm and select Next.
- Add the button details:
- Button label for Your Firm - The connection name you will see on the connection button.
- Button label for Counterparty Firm - The connection name the counterparty will see on the connection.
- Page - Choose the button layout page to add the connection.
- Select Create.
Please make sure the no special characters (+, . / , ( , ) , | , [ , ] , - , amoung others) are used when creating the button label, as this will cause the creation of the connection to fail.
The connection will now be present on your button layout. Your counterparty needs to accept the invite for the connection to be active. They can accept it by navigating to New Invitations.
Pendling connection vs. accepted connection
Important note: Keep in mind that your entire group will also have the ability to accept that invitation. Group connections are designed so that you can have multiple people in your group covering that connection. If you don't want anyone else on that line, ask your team members to decline the connection.
How to accept a Group Connection
- Select the Cloud9 Community button in the left navigation bar.
- Select the New Invitations tab.
- Accept the connection.
New invitations will show a red notification for 24 hours. After 24 hours, that connection can be found in the Connections tab instead.
