Direct messages, group chats and chat rooms perform in a similar manner but have subtle differences which differentiate them all. A simple way to understand the difference is to remember the following:
- Direct message: A chat between 2 users
- Group chat: A quick chat between more than 2 users
- Chat room: A named, ongoing chat between several users, to which new members can be added
Note: A direct message or a group chat will generate one conversation ID; however, when a new user is added to a group chat, this is considered a new group chat and another conversation ID will be generated from the moment the new user is added.
