Start phone calls from hyperlinks

Users enabled for either the Click-to-Call or Cloud Dial Tone functionality can now seamlessly initiate phone calls using Cloud9 by clicking a hyperlink in any other application. When Cloud9 is set as the default calling application, clicking to dial works on applications that support hyperlinks, like browsers, email/calendar clients, and Microsoft Office. These links must be tagged with the callto: or tel: protocols to work (for example, “tel:2120001111”).

To enable Cloud9 as your default click-to-dial application, you can select Cloud9 as the default app, or change the default Windows settings.

Setting Cloud9 to be the default app for phone call hyperlinks

  1. Scroll down in the Default apps window and click Choose default apps by protocol on Windows 10 or Choose defaults by link type on Windows 11.

  1. Find CALLTO, click Choose a default, then select C9 Trader, or if you already have an app assigned, click the app and select C9 Trader.

  1. Find TEL further down in the list, click Choose a default, then select C9 Trader. If you already have an app assigned, click the app and select C9 Trader.

Calling from phone number hyperlinks

After you configure Cloud9 to be the default app, you can click a phone number in applications that support this hyperlink type to dial the number.

  • When Cloud9 Trader is already running: When you click a phone hyperlink, the call is initiated in Cloud9 from your primary Cloud Dial Tone or Click to Call line using its default audio device (Cloud9 does not display if minimized).
  • When Cloud9 is not running:  When you click a phone number hyperlink, the Cloud9 login window appears. After logging in, you can click the phone number hyperlink again to start the call.
