To maximize your screen real estate, you can hide the left navigation window displaying your chat list.
To hide your chat list, hover over it and select the left arrow (Figure 1):

The left navigation pane will collapse and only display the available menu items, not any of your chat rooms or folders.
To display your chat list again, select the right arrow (Figure 2):

The left navigation pane will expand and your chat rooms and folders will be displayed.
Note: There is also a keyboard shortcut to hide your chat list that works in the browser version of Symphony as well as the SDA, ctrl + shift + e (Windows), or cmd + shift + e (Mac).
Your chat list can also be configured to work in conjunction with your tabs/workspaces, meaning you can set your chat list to be hidden for some but visible for others, giving you maximum flexibility over your screen real estate.
For Symphony Meetings, if your chat list is hidden, calls will automatically pop out and be visible on your screen in a Smaller Meeting window (Figure 3):
