Importing external contacts

The Contact Import feature allows you to expand your community and discover who's on Symphony Messaging.

You can import your contacts from various platforms and you will see whether you are already connected to these contacts on Symphony Messaging. If you are not connected, you can send them a connection request and start chatting via Symphony Messaging when they have accepted.

You can directly import your Google or Outlook contacts in your community from the Connections modal, or use CSV files, vCard files, or email addresses to import contacts from another platform.

To import external contacts:

  1. Select Connections in the left navigation bar, then the Import Contact tab.
  2. Select your preferred import method between Outlook, Google, CSV/VCARD, or email address.

Import your contacts from your Outlook or Google account: 

  1. Select the Connect button for Microsoft Outlook or Google Workspace.
  2. Choose your account and allow Symphony Messaging to access your contact data.

Your contact data will be reviewed and you will see the list of the people you can connect with.

Import from a CSV or vCard file

You can upload an existing contact list from another tool such as an Outlook contacts export file.

  1. Select a CSV or vCard file with a list of email addresses in a single column.
  2. Upload the file.

Import contacts from a list of email addresses 

You can upload an existing email address list from any other source or create one:

  1. Copy and paste or manually type the email addresses of the contacts you wish to import. 

Email addresses should be separated by a comma (,) or semicolon (;) or listed on separate lines.

  1. Click Confirm.

You will see the list of the people you can connect with.

Connect with your contacts 

Select the people you want to connect with from your uploaded contacts:

  • NOT CONNECTED: Uploaded contacts already on Symphony Messaging whom you can send a connection request to via the CONNECT button.
  • NOT ON SYMPHONY: Uploaded contacts who are not yet Symphony Messaging users.
  • CONNECTED: Uploaded contacts you are already connected to on Symphony Messaging.

You can start chatting with a contact once they have accepted the connection request you sent them and view the status of your connection requests in the connection management panel.
