Send a message blast using a WhatsApp message template

Federation users entitled to WhatsApp can send message blasts to individual users or distribution lists on Symphony Messaging using WhatsApp message templates. The feature supports sending text messages up to 1000 characters long, and including maximum one attachment (document or image file).

  • To learn how to send a message blast to a mix of selected Federation and Symphony Messaging chats and contacts, refer to this article.

To send a message blast via a WhatsApp template:

  1. Select the Blast icon from the Symphony Messaging navigation bar.
  2. Select Add recipients or select Create distribution list to add people, chats, or folders containing multiple chats.
  3. Type the name of your contacts or chats in the search field, select them and click Add. Make sure you include at least one WhatsApp contact.

  1. Write your message in the dedicated text field, and add your attachment if needed.

  1. Select the WhatsApp icon next to the text field to activate the template mode.

Note: The option remains active until you manually deactivate it by selecting the X icon or the WhatsApp icon.

  1. Select Send message to blast your message. WhatsApp recipients will be able to see your message even if their 24-hour window is closed.

Note: Blasting via a WhatsApp template does not open the 24-hour window:

  • If the 24-hour window with a WhatsApp contact is closed, the message preview is sent within a WhatsApp template. All messages sent with the WhatsApp template blast option are shown as previews to the contact. Important: Please be aware that high blast traffic through templates may cause Meta to pause message delivery for specific contacts, and is therefore not recommended.

  • If the 24-hour window with the contact is already open, the message will be sent as a standard message.

What is the WhatsApp 24-hour window?

WhatsApp has placed a 24-hour rule on WhatsApp conversations. If a WhatsApp client has been inactive for longer than 24 hours, they will no longer view new messages automatically from the room, until they restart their interaction by sending a message or selecting the View Message reminder prompt, at which point any previously queued messages will appear.
