Create a new WhatsApp contact

From the Symphony Messaging mobile app

  1. In the Symphony Messaging mobile app, tap the + menu icon and select Add contact.
  2. If you are entitled to more than one Federation channel, select WhatsApp as the channel to which you’d like to onboard your contact.
  3. Fill in the fields with your contact’s information: First name, Last name, Company, Email, Phone number.
  4. Alternately, tap Start a chat from your address book and search for and select a contact in your phone’s directory. The contact information is automatically added to the fields.
  5. Tap the Add button.

  1. Review the contact details summary, then tap Confirm. You get confirmation that your contact was added and a chat room with them is being created.

  1. Tap OK. You will see the chat room in your chat list as soon as it is created.

From your phone's Contacts app

  1. Open the Contacts app on your phone.
  2. Select a contact and select the Share option for the contact card.
  3. Select Symphony as the app you want to share your contact to.
  4. Choose Add contact and select Continue. (You can also choose to share the contact’s details in a Symphony Messaging conversation.)
  5. Complete the contact onboarding process and create a new chat.

From the extension app

  1. Go to the Apps section in Symphony and select WhatsApp under Federation Suite.
  2. Select New Contact and fill in the following fields with your contact’s details:
    • Requestor: Add a contact on behalf of a colleague, if enabled.
    • First name, Last name, Company, Email, Phone number
    • Create room with this contact (optional): Check this box to create a chat with the contact, or leave it unchecked to add the contact without creating a chat.

Notes:

  • Entering a room name is required; by default, this is the contact’s first and last name followed by [WHATSAPP].
  • The option to create a room with the contact is not needed for WhatsApp Direct contacts: when adding the contact from the extension app, a direct chat with that contact is automatically created.

New Contact form for WhatsApp Direct contacts:

  1. Select Create.
  2. Review and confirm your contact’s information to proceed. The client contact card will be created.

From Symphony Messaging client

  1. In Symphony Messaging, select (Create) or (Connections), then select the Add contact link.

  1. In the Add Contact form, select WhatsApp from the list of channels, and fill in the contact detail fields.

  1. Select Add.
  2. Review the contact’s information and select Confirm. The contact card will be created. If the option was selected, a chat room with the contact will also be created and opened.
