How to use Microsoft Teams and Cloud9 audio devices simultaneously

Teams-certified headsets are designed with system-wide integration features, which means:

  • Muting your microphone in Microsoft Teams also mutes your microphone in Cloud9.

  • This causes audio disruptions or compliance recording failures in Cloud9.

This is due to the way Teams-certified devices manage audio, by linking microphone controls across all apps using the same input channel.

To avoid this conflict and ensure both apps work independently, your headset must:

  1. Allow independent microphone control — so that muting in one app doesn’t affect the other.
  2. Support dual audio routing — allowing two different applications (Teams and Cloud9) to use the microphone and speaker simultaneously.

  3. Be software-agnostic — not relying on Microsoft Teams integration features.
