A Hoot is an internal connection, designed for mass broadcasting. It functions similarly to a traditional Shoutdown connection, but it is built for massive scale. Because it is an "always-on" connection, designated 'Talkers' can instantly broadcast audio to all 'Listeners' with a single button press.
Create a Hoot connection
- Log in to the Cloud9 Admin Portal.
- On the Connections tab, click Add Connection.
- Select your Firm in the first dropdown menu, and choose Hoot from the Counterparty Type dropdown.
- Fill in the required details:
- Button Label - Enter the label that the team will see on their layout.
- Region - Select the region closest to the majority of your users.
- Max number of users on a hoot - The maximum number of users who will need access to the Hoot connection.
- Click Add Hoot button to generate the connection.
Assign users to the Hoot
- On the Connections tab, select Hoots from the connection type dropdown menu.
- Locate your newly created Hoot in the table, and click the Manage Users icon
in the corresponding Actions column.
- In the Users Available to Add table on the left, search for and select the checkboxes next to the desired users.
- Click Add Selected Users.
- In the Users Currently Added table, select the checkbox under the Assign as Talker column if the user needs to be able to broadcast. If you leave it unchecked, they will be set as a Listener only.
Once you add all the required users, they will automatically receive an invitation directly on their Cloud9 desktop application, prompting them to add the new Hoot button to their layout.
Provision the connection to a user
If the user’s invitation has expired, or you prefer to set up their board for them ahead of time, you can manually add it individually to each user.
- On the Users tab in the Cloud9 Admin Portal, search for the user in the table, hover over their row, and click the Edit Buttons icon (the four small squares) to open their Manage Buttons page.
- Scroll down to the table below the visual button layout and ensure you are on the Connections tab.
- Use the filter boxes to quickly find the new connection (for example, type "Hoot Test" in the Default Button Label column, or search the connection via the Connection ID).
- Select the checkbox next to the Hoot in the table. The button will automatically populate in the first available empty space on the user's virtual layout.
