It is sometimes necessary to create new connections with users inside or outside your organization, for example, when a user only wants to connect to an individual user on the far end, or if you want to create a private connection.
Connections can be created by Firm Admins for internal or external users, as described below:
- In the Cloud9 Admin Portal, go to the Users tab.
- To find the near end user, enter their first name, last name or username. In this example, we are searching for usera.
- After retrieving the user, select the Edit (pencil) icon.
- On the Edit User screen, select Edit Groups.
- On the following screen, select a single group the user is part of. In this example we are going to use the Symphony Voice A group.

- Important: We recommend writing down the name, as you will need it again shortly.
- Search for the far end user using the same steps as above. In this example, we are searching for userb.
- After retrieving the user, select the Edit (pencil) icon to edit the user's details.
- On the Edit User page, select the Edit Groups button.
- The Edit Groups section shows the groups the user is part of. Write down the group this user is part of, which is Symphony Voice B.
- Select the Connections icon to access the Connections page.
- On the following screen, select Add Connection.
- Fill in or select the following details:

- The near end firm name
- The near end group name under Create Connection From
- The far end group name under Create Connection To
- The Connection Type as Shoutdown
- The far end group name under My Firm Button Label
- The current group name under Remote Firm Button Label
- Select the Add Connection button. This will create the new connection and take you to the main page, where you will see the newly created connection and the other connections.
- Write down the connection ID (in this example, it is sPK-12345678-987654).
- To assign the connection to the user's button board, in the Users tab search for usera.
- Select Edit Buttons and scroll down to the Connections tab.
- Enter the ID of the connection you previously added in the Connection ID field. This will bring up the new connection details.
- Select the connection's checkbox.
The new connection will be added to the user's Cloud9 buttons.
Once both users have the connection assigned, they will be able to communicate with each other over Symphony Voice (Cloud9).
