Manage SMS rooms and room members

Create a new SMS room from the extension app

  1. Select SMS from Apps in Symphony Messaging. 

Note: If SMS is not available in the application list under Federation Suite, please check with your internal IT team to see if you have the correct permissions to access this app.

  1. Navigate to the Rooms tab, then select New Room.
  2. Fill in the following fields with the relevant details.

  • Employees: Enter Symphony Messaging contacts in your firm that you wish to add to a room with your SMS client(s).
  • SMS contacts: Enter any SMS client(s) you’d like to connect with, that you’ve added to your SMS contacts on Symphony Messaging.
  • Room Name: Enter a name for your SMS room.
  1. Select Create.
  2. Review and confirm the information is correct before proceeding. Your client(s) will receive an introduction message in SMS including the terms and conditions that they need to accept in order to begin your SMS conversation.
  3. Confirm the room is available to use in the room list.

Deactivate an SMS room

  1. Select SMS from Apps in Symphony Messaging.
  2. Navigate to the Rooms tab.
  3. Hover over the room you want to deactivate, then select the three dot menu.
  4. Select Deactivate room, and click Deactivate in the confirmation pop-up window. A message appears to let you know the room has been deactivated. The room’s status changes to Deactivated and room members receive a message to let them know their messages to the room will no longer be delivered.

Add a contact to an existing SMS room

  1. Select SMS from Apps in Symphony Messaging.
  2. Navigate to the Rooms tab.
  3. Hover over the room you want to add a user to, then select the three dot menu.
  4. Select Add Members.
  5. Add either internal or external members (from the same company), then select Add.

Remove a contact from a SMS room

  1. Select SMS from Apps in Symphony Messaging.
  2. Navigate to the Rooms tab.
  3. Hover over the room you want to add a user to, select the three dot menu and then select Manage Members (option visible only if you are the chat room owner).
  4. Select the three-dot menu of the user you want to remove and select Remove from conversation.
  5. Once you remove the user, a notification will appear in the chat room confirming they have been removed.
