Create the Cloud Dial Tone (CDT) Extension (configuration of the line)
This step maps the carrier-provided telephone number (DID/DDI) to a recognizable Cloud9 extension, defining its capacity (line appearances).
- Select the Firms tab
on the Cloud9 Admin Portal.
- Go to the row of your firm and click the Edit button
.
- Scroll down and select the Configure CDT Extensions button
.
- Click the Add New Extension button
.
- Enter the mandatory details:
- Extension: The internal short number or extension ID (must be unique within the region).
- DID/DDI: The direct inbound dial number, typically in E.164 format (e.g., +12125551234)
- Display Name: The name displayed for this line on Cloud9 (for example, "Trading Desk Line").
- Region: The region the extension belongs to.
- Line Appearances: The number of simultaneous line appearances (between 1 and 50) that users can share.
- Click the Add Extension button to save the configuration at the firm level.
Enable the user for CDT and assign the line
Once the extension is created for the firm, it must be assigned to the specific user.
- Select the Users tab
on the Cloud9 Admin Portal.
- Hover over the user's user account row and click the Edit user details button
.
- On the Edit User page, ensure Cloud Dial Tone is selected in the Dial Tone Products dropdown menu. Click Save if you made changes.
- Click the Dial Tone Settings button
at the top of the Edit User page.
- In the Sip Settings tab, use the Extension dropdown menu under Extension Settings to select the CDT extension you created.
- For the selected extension, check the Primary Line box if this line should be used for the user's outgoing dial tone calls.
- Click the Save Settings button.
The extension is now assigned to the user profile.
Add the extension to the user’s button layout
The final step is to provision the line onto the user's interface so they can actively use it.
- On the Manage Users page, hover over the user’s row and click the Edit Buttons button
.
- Select the Extensions tab in the table under the user’s button layout.
- Check the specific Dial Tone number(s) (line appearance) to add it to the layout.
The button is generally added automatically to the first available position.
- Select an available position on a page for the line appearance in the Page dropdown menus.
Tip: Set a 0-position# for an available position on the Favorites page. Placing a button on the Favorites page makes it easy to drag and drop the button to another page afterward.
- Click the Add to Layout button.
- If necessary, select another page in the table once back on the Manage Buttons page and drag and drop buttons to reposition them.
The added Dial Tone buttons will appear on the user’s layout upon their next login. If the user has already logged in, they will need to log out and back in again to see the new buttons.
