Screen sharing / hamburger menu issue on SDA 9 or above

On the Symphony Messaging Desktop Application (SDA) version 9.x.x or above, an incorrectly configured flag caused an issue which prevented screen sharing or the hamburger menu from performing as expected.

For security reasons, Symphony initially enabled the contextIsolation flag on the SDA in order to isolate the Electron execution context from the webapp (SFE) in case a customer's Symphony Messaging instance was compromised.

When this flag was added in an earlier version of the SDA, customers tended to have a configuration which meant it was better to have the contextIsolation flag set to false, but it is now recommended that this flag is set to true for SDA versions 9.x.x and above.

Furthermore, the contextOriginUrl flag needs to be set with the desired Pod URL/SSO URL to ensure the screen sharing / hamburger menu functionality is not impaired.

Note: This flag allows the whitelisted web page to communicate with the SDA.

To resolve these issues:

  1. Open the Symphony configuration file and update the contextIsolation flag to True.
  2. Ensure the URL is configured with the desired address, and the contextOriginUrl flag is ""

If the issue persists after you have closed and reopened Symphony Messaging, please contact the Symphony Support team at support@symphony.com and inform them that you are experiencing issues with screen sharing or the hamburger menu in SDA 9.x.x or above.
