To be able to send messages, you must first start a chat or a group chat with the people you want to contact.

Start a new chat
One-to-one chat
- Tap the
button in the bottom right corner of the app.
- Search for the person you want to connect with.
- Select the person in the search results to start chatting with them.
Group chat
- Tap the
button in the bottom right corner of your screen.
- Tap the Create group button.
- Search and select people's names.
- Tap the Next button
.
- Enter the group name (optional), then tap the Confirmation button
to create the chat.
You can immediately start chatting with the group you just created.
Join a chat room
- Tap the Search icon in the top bar of the app and select Rooms.
- Enter the name of the room.
- If it is a public room, select the room in the search results to join it.
- If it is a private room, select the room in the search results and tap the Request access button which will send a connection request to the room owner and wait for approval.
Also note that not all rooms are visible in search results.
View the chat details
- To view information about a chat, tap the chat header.
- Tap Members to view all room members and their roles.
- Tap Attachments to see any files sent in the room.
- Tap Properties to view or change the permissions and settings (only for group chats).
Add members to existing chats
Depending on the room preferences, only room owners may be able to add members. Owners are always listed at the top of the members list that you access from the chat details.
- Select a group chat and tap the chat header.
- Tap Members.
- Tap the
button.
- Search or select the members you want to add.
- Tap the
confirmation button. The selected users are added to the chat.
Update chat room owners
Chat room owners can make other room members an owner, or remove them as an owner.
To promote or demote a room member in a chat:
- Tap the chat header.
- Tap Members to view the chat members.
- Select a member and select the Make an owner or Remove as owner option.
Send files
Attachments
- To send an attachment file, tap the Attachments icon.
- Select the file.
- Tap Send.
- To remove an attachment file before sending the message, tap the x in the top right corner of the attachment.
Photos
- To take and send a photo, tap the Camera icon.
- Confirm to attach the photo.
- Tap Send.
- To remove an attachment file before sending the message, tap the x in the top right corner of the attachment.
Reply to, forward, copy, pin, save or remove messages
- To access the Message actions menu, long press the message in the chat.
- Copy, forward, reply, pin, save or remove the message.
Connect via QR code
- Tap the three dot menu and select Profile.
- Tap the QR code icon to display your profile QR code.
- Select the desired option for the QR code.

Share this QR code to display your contact details and profile information ready to be saved.
Share this QR code with any Symphony Messaging users so they can connect with you directly on Symphony Messaging. |
Share contacts from your mobile device's Contacts app
- Open your Contacts app on your phone and select a contact.
- Select the Share option, and - depending on options - the vCard/VCF file option.
- Select Symphony Messaging to send your contact’s details to a chat.
- Select the Share contact option in Symphony Messaging and tap Continue.
- Select the chat and send the vcf/vCard file.
The Symphony Messaging user receiving the vcf/vCard file can view the contact's card.
- From their phone, they can tap the received file to display the contact details.
- From the desktop app or their browser, they can view the vCard of the contact you sent and download the file.
Leave a chat
You cannot leave a room if you are the only chat room owner. Another user must be promoted to an owner before you can leave.
- To leave a chat room, tap the chat header.
- Tap Leave chat.
- Tap Leave to leave the chat.
Deactivate a chat room
- To deactivate a chat room, tap the chat header.
- Tap Deactivate chat.
- Tap Deactivate to deactivate the chat.
